Spring Car Care Tips

SPRING CAR CARE TIPS IN California, MD

In many places in the U.S., winter can be rough on a vehicle. However, spring also brings unique challenges. These can range from recuperating from winter to preparing for new issues that could pop up here and there in spring.

Here at Lexington Park Ford Lincoln, we want our customers to know the best ways to keep up with their vehicle's maintenance. So keep reading to ensure that you're ready for the upcoming months.

4 TYPES OF SPRING CAR CARE

WASH YOUR CAR

Many car owners wash their car in spring regardless, since the weather gets warmer. However, it's especially important that you wash your car in spring because of the toll that winter weather, sludge and road salt take on your vehicle. It's an even better idea to consider getting it detailed entirely.

CHANGE YOUR WIPER BLADES

You'll need fresh blades to handle the spring rain and pollen, but even if you replaced your blades less than a year ago, winter can really wear down the rubber. That's because rubber is more brittle when cold, meaning it cracks and breaks more easily. Additionally, when your blades drag across an ice-covered windshield, it's roughly equivalent to dragging them over pavement. Needless to say, it can be pretty hard on the rubber.

LOOK OUT FOR POTHOLES

When water freezes, it expands. When it freezes on roads, it causes massive cracks and, eventually, potholes. If you've driven over a pothole before, you know how rough it can feel. As you'd expect, it's even worse for your car, and can even knock it off its alignment. That's why, when spring comes around, you'll want to be mindful of potholes, but you won't always be able to avoid them because of oncoming traffic or narrow lanes. Because of that, it may be a good idea to bring your vehicle in for an alignment check before spring is over.

SWITCH OUT YOUR EMERGENCY GEAR

Once spring and warmer weather comes around, it may be a good idea to switch out that winter coat for some extra water bottles or bug spray. A lot of emergency gear is handy year-round, like flashlights and first aid. But you'll also want to specifically prepare for the unique challenges that come around with each changing season.
